In 2010, Megan Souza and Eric Powers started cultivating organic cannabis in San Luis Obispo County, California, using sustainable agricultural practices. Well before there were regulations governing the cannabis industry, they prioritized using only Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) certified pest control and disease management products and fertilizers.

In 2013, Megan’s Organic Market (MOM) was founded as a delivery service at a time when most retailers sold products made with hazardous fungicides, miticides, pesticides and petroleum-derived fertilizers. MOM did things differently, and set out on a mission to provide high quality cannabis flower to ensure greater customer safety and lower environmental impact.

Within five years, MOM became one of the most respected Prop. 215 cannabis collectives in California. With its apron-clad staff, compassionate customer service, and wholesome approach to operations, MOM further differentiated itself by its commitment to positively impacting the communities served through on-the-ground philanthropic work, charitable donations and environmental stewardship.

MOM staff have adopted a two-mile stretch of Highway 1, sponsored community workshops, blood drives and murals, organized and staffed monthly dinners at homeless shelters, coordinated creek cleanups, food drives and anti-bias trainings, and hosted a local educational radio show. In early 2021, the company hired its first dedicated community engagement director to continue to find opportunities to advance social and environmental causes everywhere MOM operates.

Today, MOM is a 100% woman-owned company with multiple storefronts, including the first adult-use and medical cannabis retail store in the city of San Luis Obispo, and a cannabis product brands division. With its values-driven brand and beneficial business practices, the company continues to expand throughout California, with designs to open across the United States as their success grows.
